Do i want to be writing this on this blog? No. So why then am i doing it? Its because maybe this could help someone come back on track, you may have lost your way but there is always a light that shines bright at the end of the tunnel and that sweet voice calling you to come back home. Its a bit longer than the usual i write but bare with me you would like it.
So somewhere last week i read an article on a friends blog, talking about a special story in the Bible about how a wicked king wanted to weaken the children of God and cunningly devised a plan to get them to disobey God.
Balaam was a prophet to whom God spoke to every now and then. However, Balaam’s heart was not right with God, and eventually he showed his true colors by betraying Israel and leading them astray. This is a brief background of what happened.
In Numbers 22—24, we find the story about Balaam and the king of Moab, a man called Balak wanted to weaken the children of Israel, who on their way to Canaan had moved in on his territory. Balak sent men to Balaam and asked him to curse Israel in exchange for a reward. God told Balaam, “You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed”.
King Balak then sent other officials, more numerous and more distinguished than the first”, promising a handsome reward. This time God said, “Go with them, but do only what I tell you”. Once again he was commanded to bless them. This went on for a couple of times and it frustrated both the King and the prophet. Was there another way the prophet thought to himself.
However, later on Balaam figured out a way to get his reward from Balak. Balaam advised the Moabites on how to entice the people of Israel with prostitutes and idolatry. He could not curse Israel directly, so he came up with a plan for Israel to bring a curse upon themselves. Balak followed Balaam’s advice, and Israel fell into sin, worshiping Baal of Peor and committing fornication with Midianite women. For this God plagued them, and 24,000 men died. Sad ending right? hmmm Eye Asem oo.
Lets translate that to todays young-man or woman, how does this affect you. Am sure you are an “Upright Christian” who takes church very seriously and do all you can in your power to remain righteous. Well i want you to know you are not alone on that train, each and every true believer makes some amount of effort to walk in the right part.
But let me ask you a question yh, is the walk of faith by works or grace? Are we to try and walk in the light or totally surrender our will to the cross and lean of the grace of Jesus?
Just like the daft prophet and the children of Israel the devil has managed to entice us with so many distractions we have strayed from Gods commandment and and have disobeyed God in so many things.
That boy you are with canoodling and cuddling who has no intentions of marrying you, or that sister you do unspeakable things to when no one is watching(Flee Youthful Lust the bible says), the filthy thoughts and impure speech amongst your friends just to fit in (Let your conversation be without unclean words), oh how about when you said your friend would never amount to anything because you were angry (Woe unto him/her who would call your friend fool), or that time your mum asked you to help her at home but you were too busy planning to go meet that guy so you ignored her and left home. You think you met that pretty girl by mistake? or it was a coincidence that fine guy sat by you on the bus? Girl wake up from that dream you are having and go on your knees in prayer for God to guide you.
How about Tithe? the devil knows he cannot touch you, so he would let you bring yourself by manipulating you to not pay your one tenth, then he can get access to you and mess you up real good. All i am saying is this, the devil has been defeated long ago, we have been given the power over him but he can make you renounce that power and hold on nothing and thats when he comes in like a roaring lion to devour you.
The cost of wrestling with God is much greater and trust me you wont have it easy until you surrender.
The devil knows if he touches your life generations will suffer because out of you shall come great nations, he knows when he ends your walk with Christ many will not be saved because you will never proclaim the goodness and grace of salvation.
